Performance For Life Method™
A new paradigm in patient/client performance assessment.
New techniques are often developed for managing the many dysfunctions our patients and clients present with.
Rarely is there an opportunity to learn a new assessment to better identify the dysfunction….where a common language and logic can identify the core problem and if desired have the findings be replicated, and the case management be understood and shared by several disciplines and/or providers.
The PFL Method™ is a quick, non invasive assessment method that embodies a global language and logic, for clinical management and performance optimization of your patient/client.
The method is foundational in its approach and revolutionary
in its perspective and application.
The fundamental premise which defines the PFL Method™ pertains to evaluating the health and efficiency of the CNS. Based on science and supported by clinical observation, it becomes apparent that a neurological imbalance or proprioceptive deficit (PD) can become integrated into the CNS, resulting in a global decrease in efficiency.
Since deficiencies in CNS output can exist without symptoms, the PFL Method™ assesses these deficits in the CNS by utilizing testing referred to as a global mechanical assessment. ( GMA)
What criteria do you rely on to establish your clinical management?
- Palpation
- Instrumentation/Diagnostics
- Postural Assessment
- Movement Patterns
- Leg Length
- Muscle Strength
- Challenges
- Mereck
- Pain
- Subjective Complaints
The findings of the above criteria are evidence of neurological adaptations.
What if there was a way to identify and demonstrate the SOURCE of the adaptation?
What if you could actively engage the patient/client in a process that would allow them to experience the imbalances of their CNS that may be the underlying CAUSE of the adaptations seen in traditional criteria without regard to their presenting pain patterns or symptoms?
The PFL Method™ is the revolutionary assessment that allows you to find what you didn’t know to look for and correct what you need to correct with your tools and techniques to establish the optimal base for your patients/clients performance and/or recovery.
The PFL Method™ has made a profound difference in the practice and the clinical outcomes of the practitioners who have embraced it.
Revolutionary Paradigm
The PFL Method™ was developed with the understanding that knowing how the body works is critical in developing clinical management protocols. The PFL Method™ of assessment is unique in that the paradigm is derived from an integrated, global perspective.
The PFL Method™ derives its logic from an understanding that neurology, biomechanics and soft tissue form an interdependent triad and cannot be functionally separated.
Your clinical management protocol must be supported by a fundamental evidence based paradigm. The paradigm of management in turn is the basis from which clinical assessment, interpretation and management are derived.
So the question becomes, what drives your clinical management protocols and recommendations in patient care?
The following is a brief overview of the revolutionary thinking behind the PFL Method™:
- To develop a common understanding of how the body works, the PFL Method™ derives its logic from a global perspective.
- The paradigm shift from local management to global management lies in understanding all demands placed upon the spine.
- The paradigm shift from local to global lies in the understanding that neurology, biomechanics and soft tissue comprise an integrated working system which cannot be functionally separated.
- A paradigm shift from local or regional to global lies in the understanding that solutions should be functional in nature first instead of mechanical.
- The foundational premise of assessment in the PFL Method™ is to determine if the CNS is working at its highest level of efficiency.
- The logic of the PFL Method™ comes from understanding how the CNS adapts and how these adaptations effect soft tissue function and joint function throughout the body.
- The PFL Method™ relates the extremities to the spine and defines the unique differences between the upper and lower extremities with regards to their function, adaptability and involvement in load transfer through the kinetic chain.
- The PFL Method™ explores the theory of adaptation to imposed demand.
- The PFL Method™ explores the concepts of ideal existence vs accommodative vs symptomatic and the relevance of these topics in clinical management.
- The PFL Method™ defines a revolutionary clinical presentation known as Reciprocal Limb Syndrome.
- The PFL Method™ defines the importance of core stability in load transfer, extremity function and its interrelationship to CNS efficiency.
- The PFL Method™ identifies a consistent logic which explains why functional instability in the kinetic chain is often a CNS problem first.
- The PFL Method™ identifies certain clinical findings which must be identified and managed prior to engaging in rehabilitative care and performance training.
The PFL Method™ identifies a primary clinical finding which is often not pain driven but can effect the efficiency of the human body and inhibit performance and recovery.
